Find a Seat at the Thanksgiving Table

A taste of winter is in the air (let it snow!) and Thanksgiving will be here before you know it. If your plans are bringing you to Sun Valley to enjoy both the holiday and opening day on Bald Mountain, now is the time to make sure your dining options are as exciting as your recreational options! There are numerous choices to enjoy a memorable and (ful)filling Thanksgiving feast.

Thanksgiving is all about friends, family, gratitude, and, of course, a only-once-a-year meal. Enjoy your feast at a Sun Valley Resort eatery and take the worry and work out of the holiday

One of the most popular ways to savor the season is with Sun Valley’s legendary Thanksgiving Buffet. Located in the Limelight Ballroom at the Sun Valley Inn, this bountiful buffet is a feast for the eyes, the tastebuds, and is the setting for a meal your group will not soon forget. The beautiful space creates a welcoming autumnal invitation for your party to come in, relax, converse, laugh, and make memories. Enjoy course after course of both traditional Thanksgiving favorites, plus the extremely popular carved prime rib, and sides to suit every palate. There is also an almost-too-good-to-believe dessert presentation. No matter if you like your Thanksgiving plate simple or more sumptuous, you will find choice after choice after choice. There is also a full bar available to add to the merriment and a Jazz Trio will entertain while you dig in.

This year, the Buffet will begin at 2 p.m. “This is earlier than we have ever opened for Thanksgiving,” said Catering and Special Events Manager Kat Stansberry. “Last year, we opened our doors at 3 p.m. instead of the usual 4 p.m. start and the response was so positive we will continue to offer earlier seating this year, as well.” The Buffet is served from 2 to 8 p.m. and seating is first come, first served. While tickets are available at the door, Kat strongly suggests buying them ahead of time. “There is a $20 savings for adults if you pre-purchase your tickets,” she explained. The cost is $75 for adults in advance and $45 for children. At the door, the cost is $95 for adults and $60 for children (plus tax on all choices, not inclusive of alcoholic beverages). Tickets can be purchased by phoning 208-622-2135 or online here

After a morning on the slopes, the charming Konditorei is a great place to enjoy your holiday meal

Since the Ram Lounge at the Inn is currently being renovated as part of the exciting new Village Station project, Joseph Armeen, Director of Catering and Convention Services, said the Continental Room at the Inn will transform into a lounge at Thanksgiving. “We will be serving cocktails and snacks in the Continental Room and will have televisions broadcasting some of the holiday games,” he explained. “We invite our guests to relax in the lounge before being seated for the Buffet.”

In addition to the Buffet, three Sun Valley eateries will also be offering Thanksgiving options. In the Village, the rustic and charming Konditorei will prepare its tasty lunch menu with the addition of two specials: Turkey Schnitzel with cranberry mostarda, whipped Idaho potatoes, and a winter root vegetable medley; and a Fresh Idaho trout with sautéed spatzle, haricot verts amandine, and a classic beurre blanc. Please call 208-622-2235 for more information.

Let Chef Derek Gallegos weave his magic this Thanksgiving with a fabulous meal at Gretchen’s in the Lodge

At the Sun Valley Lodge, Chef Derek Gallegos will apply his magic to a Thanksgiving meal with the addition of a Holiday Roast Turkey meal to the regular delicious menu at Gretchen’s. This dish includes herb roasted natural turkey breast, whipped Idaho potatoes and gravy, cornbread and sausage stuffing, buttered green beans, hot rolls, and cranberry chutney. The cost is $32 for adults and $19 for children and reservations are recommended. Please call 208-622-2144 for reservations or more information.

Just up the road from the Lodge at the Sun Valley Club, there will be an additional way to celebrate the holiday. On Thanksgiving, the Clubhouse will stay open late until 5 p.m. and in addition to their regular menu, will offer a traditional meal of roasted turkey breast, mashed potatoes, turkey gravy, candied yams, cranberry chutney, soft rolls, and stuffing. Please call 208-622-2919 to learn more abut this delicious option.

In Sun Valley, Thanksgiving is, of course, about the food, but it also marks opening day for the winter season – another reason to celebrate!
